Last month we asked a few of our favorite French—and France-living—women to set the record straight. What′s a French fashion cliche that you′re so over? The responses ran the gamut and rightly so. As much as we appreciate iconic French fashion and get excited by how it′s interpreted and developed today, no one deserves to be put into any kind of box. Certainly not pertaining to personal style. But the question lingered a bit: What is French style in 2018?
Again we turned to our social media community and found answers that spoke more to how those living in France are discovering and celebrating style today and less to do with chalking it up to je ne sais quoi. Ahead see what these modern muses candidly have to say about French style in 2018, as well as who and what are inspiring them.
How do you define French style in 2018?
French style in 2018 still can be defined not specifically through clothes but in spirit: it′s effortless, it′s nonchalant, it′s casual, and it′s unassuming. To me, it feels more like an attitude these days.

I′m inspired by everyday random people I come across on my Instagram feed. A lot of them happen to be Scandinavian girls. Their sense of cool is unmatched, and their fearlessness in mixing and matching and daring to wear sometimes outlandish outfits is so refreshing.
Also, Jacquemus′s Instagram feed is such a breath of fresh air. To me, he remains the only French designer who has managed to capture French diversity and what it means to be French in 2018 in a very authentic way. He truly is inspiring.

Today, French style is mixed, and that′s what makes it so rich. I can not say that only one person inspires me. My inspiration comes from meetings on the street, people whose style I find interesting.
There are influencers like Karla Deras with her brand The Line by K or Gilda Ambrosio for The Attico that I really like. They have used their notoriety as a stepping stone in becoming businesswomen today. These are perfect examples for me.
How do you define French style in 2018?
With the risk of sounding disloyal to my genes, I have to say I am quite bored of the "French style" formula at the mo, especially as girls have claimed it as a money spinner.
In my mind, the reason French girls are so stylish is that they are so much more than what they wear. That is to say that they don′t spend so much time picking outfits or doing makeup because they have better things to do, like read, go to the museum, eat well, and enjoy the simple things in life. Sounds cliche, but the reason real French girls look so good is because they are quite comfortable with who they are. And not because they are wearing a Breton top!

In terms of outfit inspo, I have to say I am feeling very inspired by European girls at the mo: For my Italian fix, I stalk Italian bombshells Giorgia Tordini and Gilda Ambrosio (also can′t get enough of their label The Attico); on the Spanish menu we have Maria Bernard and Blanca Miro; Maja WYH is my German snack, etc.
